I want to share some wins that I previously achieved. I am a marketer and I secured an exclusive agency for a well-known product. I successfully achieved distribution via a multi-national chemical company. I had no money and was living in a factory. This was a major predicament, as I had no means to import and supply this multi-national company and I have not heard of NG. So I decided that the company must pay me upfront when placing orders. This defies all logic, as big companies don’t pay upfront especially when dealing with someone that they don’t know from.a bar of soap. I also had a lot of naysayers that just laughed at me, because they thought I had lost it. A meeting was scheduled with the product manager and the VP of the company. They were very keen to get involved with the product. During the meeting, I was asked about the Trading Terms. I said there were no Trading Terms I require upfront payment if we should enter into a distribution agreement. The atmosphere was tense and all of a sudden the PM said to me I will buy 3 40ft containers with an upfront payment and she further declared that she would pre-sell the 3 containers before it arrived in SA. As you can imagine I was stunned for a couple of seconds because it went so effortlessly. The second major win was when I spent all my profit on building the brand because they said that they would have another container before the containers arrived. Needless to say they reneged and I was in an extremely awkward position because I had no money to pay for the shipping and customs. Once again I spoke to my friends to ask their advice and once again they laughed at me and said that I was totally stuffed. The company also kept on telling me that there was no way that they would buy another container because their previous containers had not even arrived yet However I refused to accept it and believed that against all odds the company will place the order and low and behold a day before the ship docked they placed the order.
